Roller Mill / Roller Mill Mixer

Strong & Reliable Roller Mills & Roller Mill Mixers in Shea-Oak Log

Roller Mill

Rollers are spiral cut to stop groove line up so no grain can pass through uncrushed. We also regroove cast rollers up to 305mm (12”) diameter.

Double crush mills are ideal for making pig feed as we use 6 teeth per 25mm rollers as primary rollers in 1st mill and 10 teeth per 25mm in 2nd mill to give a constant crush.

Roller Mill and Mixer Specification

Rollers

305mm diameter, various widths from 152mm to 608mm wide with 8 teeth per 25mm on standard unit, 10 teeth per 25mm and for extremely fine cracking, 12 teeth per 25mm, or the other alternative 6 teeth per 25mm for extremely course cracking.

The course 6 teeth per 25mm are used as primary rollers in double crush systems for pig feed as these pull the lupins, peas and beans through very quickly. Then they pass through another set of rollers, normally around 10 teeth per 25mm. This gives a very even feed consistency in a very short period of time.

The rollers are fabricated carbonised and hardened for maximum toughness and can be softened again for regrooving. The grooves are spiral cut to eliminate groove line up and uncrushed grain going through the mill.

SHAFTS AND BEARINGS:

These are a grade 4140 shaft machined and keyed to fit roller hubs. The large mill rollers are clamped on to the shafts each end. The bearings are self-aligning. Heavy duty ball bearings fitted to shafts with taper sleeves. With proper maintenance and fitting this saves the problems other cheaper made mills have (hammered or worn shafts) where bearings fit.

MILL DRIVES:

  • The rollers are driven with two double B belt drives.
  • The 152mm wide mills have 2 x BB60 V belts.
  • The 304mm wide mills have 2 x BB60 V belts.
  • The 456mm wide mills have 2 x BB60 V belts.
  • The 608mm wide mills have 2 x BB60 V belts.
  • All pulleys that fit on drive shafts are taper lock mount for easy removal when rollers need servicing.

Double Roller Mill Drive

The drive between the top and bottom mill is as follows:

Main input shaft is always in the bottom mill, the top mill is then driven via Poly chain drive for positive drive. V Belt drive is not an alternative, belts tend to glaze and slip, the result being a blocked and jammed mill.

APPROXIMATE TONS PER HOUR

  • 152mm single and dual - up to 3 + tons per hour
  • 304mm single and dual - up to 6 + tons per hour
  • 456mm single and dual - up to 9 + tons per hour
  • 608mm single and dual - up to 14 + tons per hour

Please note: these are only approximate figures. It all depends on the type of grain being milled and the teeth per 25mm of the rollers (i.e. how fine the finished product needs to be). We recommend for milling bean, lupins and peas - 6 teeth per 25mm rolls.

Mixer Tank Fram and Unloading Auger

Mixer tank is 7.2 Cum approximately 4.6 Ton mixing capacity.

The unloading auger system for the mixer tank is a 9” unloading auger hydraulic driven with a hydraulic choke.

Live bottom in the mixer tank wich mix the feed and keep the bottom clear from build up.

Tyres are a 385/65R22.5 super single truck tyres. Alternative tyres are flotation 550/60-22.5

On-Board Hydraulic System

Optional Extra

Mills fitted with an on board hydraulic system, use a speed increaser gear box & hydraulic pump driven from the back of the main roller mill input shaft. The speed increaser gear box has an oil level sight glass for oil level this must be maintained at this level. The pump fitted to this unit is designed to operate the out loading augers without the tractor running at full PTO revs like when milling. The oil delivery of this pump will supply sufficient oil at low revs, too much oil flow while emptying out can cause back pressure on the hydraulic motors and blow the seals. If the seals go you will notice your hydraulic oil disappearing, you will also notice oil in the auger hoppers.

Hydraulic oil in the system is H68 grade, gear oil in increaser box 85/140.

Tension Bar

This is factory set for high capacity milling of wheat and barley. The purpose of this tension bar is to tension the spring pressure on the floating roller which, in the event of a metal object (i.e. nut, bolt or bearing ball), it will pass through with minimal damage to the rolls.

Trial Milling

It is advisable to start the mill with hopper full and open butterfly until motor is running at its optimum (not being over loaded). If mill is fed by an auger system, flowing grain will enter faster and may load the mill motor different from above description. After milling always close butterfly to ensure against over load of motor on next start up.

Magnet Bar

Magnets where fitted are a high power Neo Separator 25mm Diameter, mounted in aluminium side rails fixed in the top hopper of the mill. These magnets are cased in a stainless steel case. The magnets should be checked and cleaned on a regular basis, they tend to build up with metal wear from augers harvesting machines ECT as a fine dust or powder.

Scales Standard on Mill Mixer

Weighing equipment is supplied by ACCUWEIGH Pty Ltd. Mobile units have 3 shear beam load cells, 1 on each axle and 1 on the draw bar. Stationary units are mounted on 4 cells. The cells are coupled into a summer box, which is connected to the digital indicator.

Operation

Overloading The Mill

Should this occur through starting with the butterfly open or being opened too wide - switch off the motor, empty the hopper and remove as much grain as possible in hopper throat, release tension from springs until you can wind grain through by hand, clear mill, re-tension springs, start mill, set your grain flow as in trial milling.

Loading The Mixer

  1. Position the roller mixer on level ground and set the tractor parking brake to prevent movement. Ensure that the discharge door is closed before loading. Engage the PTO at idle and then gradually increase to the rated speed of 540 rpm.
  2. Avoid loading improper materials such as rocks.
  3. NEVER POSITION YOURSELF ON TOP OF THE ROLLER MIXER. This may result in you falling into the mixing chamber.
  4. NEVER USE YOUR HANDS TO THROW MATERIAL INTO THE INTAKE AUGER OR ROLLER MILL HOPPER

Unloading The Mixer

  1. To unload, the mixing auger must be in operation to move the feed to the discharge door.
  2. To begin unloading, engage the discharge auger then open the discharge door to the desired height.
  3. To stop the unloading process completely, close the discharge door. Allow the discharge auger to empty and shut PTO off.
